ALPHA MERIT

The Alpha Merit Group Committee, Inc. was founded and organized in 1964 by Bro. Earnest Wallace. Firmly committed to excellence in scholarship, the Alpha Merit Program began with eighty-five boys from predominately black schools in Dallas. This program generated a tremendous amount of interest due to the financial challenges African Americans faced when attempting to pursue Higher Education.

Today, Alpha Merit has mentored over 15,000 boys and has awarded over $130,000.00 in scholarships. It’s structured program is designed to enhance leadership skills, promote academic excellence, and broaden social skills of young upcoming males from grades 5 through 12 in the Dallas area.

The Alpha Merit Group is affiliated with the Alpha Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the oldest African American Greek-letter organization in the United States of America and abroad. This group of men is comprised of professional men from various walks of life and plays various roles in the DFW community.

The Alpha Merit Group co-sponsors programs such as College Fairs, Go-To-Highschool Go-To-College, Project Alpha, and in school mentoring. The three signature events are the College Fair, Annual Pancake Breakfast and a Scholarship Beautillion. The College Fair provides essential information to perspective institutions and the Pancake Breakfast is an annual fundraiser. These proceeds and others help fund over $10,000 in scholarships that Alpha Merit Group Committee, Inc. awards to deserving young men at the Earnest Wallace Scholarship Beautillion. During this program scholarships are awarded based on scholastics, community service and a 1,500 word essay on topics selected by the Alpha Merit Board.
